During the day, I work for PILLAR Technology Group, LLC.
as a Senior Consultant. At my current consulting assignment, I am writing a Rating and Proposal System
for a major dental insurance provider in Delphi and Java.
Here are some photos of my beautiful children.
How I got started with computers.
My mother was taking some business courses at a local community college. One of the courses was BASIC
programming. She was having some trouble with the assignments, and asked me if I could try to help her
(I was in high school at the time). I took one look at the assignment, said, "Oh. All you need to do is this.."
and I knew what I wanted to do for a living. (Previously, I had dreams of being a professional baseball
player, but that is another story...)
Somehow, I managed to beg and twist the arms of my parents to purchase a computer -- an IBM PC Junior!
After all, it was a business expense, as they have a coffee business. One of the things I believe
convinced them to purchase it was my classic line "It's the only computer you'll ever need!".
Three computers later, I have eatten those words.
With a shiny new computer at my disposal, I began to explore this strange, new world. I played around
with BASIC (you needed a cartridge with the PCjr) and DOS, devouring every morsel of information I could
find. I wrote an inventory program in BASIC that was over 25 pages printed out. Then I discovered
one little statement (DIM) that reduced the program down to three pages!
Ever since, I have been exploring and learning everything and anything I can get my hands on. For a
while that has been Kylix and Linux. Lately, it has shifted to the .NET world.
Stay tuned!
